Passing the Kerch Strait in two days
Home page/ News
Major events in the world continue to be destabilizing and dangerous. Political decisions taken internationally create new barriers and obstacles to foreign economic activities in many countries.

In these circumstances, maritime logistics, a connecting link in global trade relations, is also forced to adapt to the new conditions for competent optimization of transport and economic flows.
The Crimean bridge

Situation in the Sea of Azov continues to cause general tension and creates difficulties for the passing of marine vessels. Several dozen charterers and ship owners are currently facing the problem of border control near the port of Kerch. The Coast Guard of the Russian special forces has stiffened its control over vessels transiting through the Kerch Bridge. Since mid-December 2022, a number of vessels have been anchored waiting for permission to pass. Companies are suffering enormous losses due to vessel demurrage: authorities refuse to indicate the exact time when the inspection will be over.
Customs say wait

The main explanation for the stringent inspections is a government decree on the need for increased security measures for bridges and roads through the Kerch Strait. All vessels are subject to inspections, with special attention paid to those carrying explosive cargoes and goods of high hazard class. The inspection covers accompanying documents, holds, sealing arrangements, the cargo's technical characteristics. However, the theory does not always meet practice, and availability of the necessary documents does not guarantee a successful passage of border controls. The Customs' response is: wait.

Carrying dangerous cargoes

We received a request to navigate a ship along the Azov-Moldova route, with a mandatory inspection by the Coast Guard in Kerch. The cargo was 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate, hazard class 5.1: flammable and explosive substance. A highly professional approach of experienced AG Cargobroker specialists made it possible to expertly prepare and run the vessel through the route at the earliest possible date.

AG Cargobroker managers conducted an in-depth analysis of the situation. Our experts decided to increase cargo safety by means of additional bagging and strengthening of hold sealing.
After loading in the port of Azov, the vessel headed for the Kerch Strait.
Waiting for border guard inspection at the anchorage in front of the Kerch Bridge took only two days. 4 hours after completion of the inspection the vessel received a permission to sail on.

It currently is the shortest waiting time for vessels with dangerous cargoes.
